German Roladin

This recipe was submitted by user Kelly Griffiths.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices sirloin tip steak, sliced very thin or thin fast-fry steak (what you would make fajitas out of) – 1 slice per person

  • Dijon mustard

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • 6 baby dill pickles

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 6 strips of bacon, chopped

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

  • 1 cup water, divided

Preparation

Pound the steak strips so that they are very thin. Spread a very thin layer of mustard on the sliced steak. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spread the diced onions and chopped bacon over the steak strips. Lay a pickle at one end of each steak and roll them over together so it (the pickle) looks like a pig in a blanket. Secure the meat rolls with toothpicks. Cook in an electric frying pan with oil. Add 1/2 cup water and cook on simmer for 1 1/2 hours, adding water as needed. Once meat rolls have cooked to tender, remove and set aside. Add another 1/2 cup water to the drippings to make a gravy mixture. Serve with rice or egg noodles. My Mom makes a yummy red cabbage as a side.
